William Sheehan is an amateur astronomer and author who has written or co-authored more than thirty books about astronomy or history of science, including Solar Eclipses, The Solar System, The Space Age Generation, and Discovering Mars. He is a contributing editor to Sky & Telescope and was awarded the Gold Medal of the Oriental Astronomical Association and as a 2001 Fellow of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. He retired from psychiatry in 2018 after thirty years of practice. He has been an amateur astronomer for sixty years.
