John H. Madsen

John H. Madsen is a retired archaeologist, with over thirty years of experience and commitment to the field. He holds an MA in archaeology/anthropology from California State University, Sacramento. Madsen is a co-editor of The Marana Community in the Hohokam World. In 1980, he joined the staff of the archaeological division of the Arizona State Museum at the University of Arizona. Madsen specialized in archaeological survey and later administered the Arizona Antiquity Act permits program and the state repatriation program until his retirement from the museum in 2010. Between 2016 and 2022, Madsen served as a Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management associate/volunteer, doing archaeological damage assessments on federal sites protected under the Archaeological Resources and Protection Act.
