S. Alan Stern

S. Alan Stern is the New Horizons Mission Principal Investigator. Stern began researching the Pluto system in the 1980s, focusing on characteristics of its atmosphere and the formation of the Pluto-Charon system. To date, he has authored or co-authored numerous papers on Pluto and the Kuiper Belt, including both modeling and observational topics, many using ground-based, IUE, Hubble, and New Horizons data. He was the lead editor of the 1997 Space Science Series volume, Pluto and Charon.
