To celebrate the opening of the Special Collections exhibit, Sanctuary: Who Belongs Here? The Search for Homeland on the U.S.-Mexico Border, 1848 to Today, activists from the 1980s movement will join scholars studying and participating in today’s refugee-aid efforts to address the past, present and future of sanctuary on the border.
Miriam Davidson, author of The Beloved Border, and guest exhibit curator will moderate the panel. Panelists are John Fife, Pastor, Southside Presbyterian Church (retired); Isabel García, Pima County Legal Defender (retired): and Human Rights Activist, Shefali Milczarek-Desai; Professor, University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law, and Co-Director, Bacon Immigration Law & Policy Program; and Alejandro Nava, Professor, University of Arizona Religious Studies in the College of Humanities, and Casa Alitas Volunteer.
