Tohono Chul Hosts Book Signing with Michael Chiago

Tohono Chul is hosting a book signing and sale with Michael Chiago for his new book, Michael Chiago: O’odham Lifeways Through Art.

When: Saturday, October 1, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the park’s Exhibit House at Tohono Chul, 7366 Paseo del Norte, Tucson, Arizona. Free with admission.

Michael Chiago: O’odham Lifeways Through Art offers an artistic depiction of O’odham lifeways through the paintings of internationally acclaimed O’odham artist Michael Chiago Sr. Ethnobiologist Amadeo M. Rea collaborated with the artist to describe the paintings in accompanying text, making this unique book a vital resource for cultural understanding and preservation.

The signing event is part of a special exhibit called Gathering that remains up at the Exhibit House through October 23, 2022. Gathering features works on paper by Chiago created especially for Tohono Chul’s Saguaro Discovery Trail alongside baskets, folk art, and pottery from their Permanent Collection. The exhibition communicates togetherness and fosters community; while simultaneously recognizing the generous gifts that have enabled us to gather a cohesive collection of nature, art, and culture.
